Flu forces Stones to pull gig

Mick Jagger: Needs to rest

The Rolling Stones have been forced to postpone the first of two huge Twickenham gigs this weekend because Mick Jagger is still struggling with a bout of flu.

The legendary band had to pull out of a show in Amsterdam on Wednesday due to the singer’s illness, and Saturday's concert has now also fallen victim after doctors told Jagger he needs to give his voice longer to recover.

"The doctors tell me that I must have two more days rest - and after that I will be completely recovered," Jagger says.

The Saturday show will now take place on September 20th, although the band hope Sunday's Twickenham gig will go ahead as planned. All 25,000 tickets for the two concerts have already sold out.

"The Stones were looking forward to opening in the UK — for their hometown audience — with all guns blazing," said Michael Cohl, the band’s world tour promoter. "We’re sorry to disappoint the fans who were coming on Saturday."

All tickets for the cancelled show will be valid for the rescheduled date.
