Gordon Brown pays respects to Iraq fallen at Basra wall

Emotional: Gordon and Sarah Brown at the National Memorial Arboretum today
12 April 2012

Godon and Sarah Brown led the tributes at today's rededication of the Basra Memorial Wall.

The wall was built in Basra in 2006, three years after the invasion of Iraq, but has been moved to the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire. It contains the names of 178 British soldiers and one Ministry of Defence civilian who died during the fighting.

Brigadier John Palmer, whose son Lt Richard Palmer of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards died in 2006, said: "Whilst nothing can make his tragic loss any easier, we, and the other families, will have a new focal point for our remembrance."
