GP refuses Pill to unmarried woman

A London GP has refused to prescribe the contraceptive Pill to a patient because she was not married.

George Sadler reportedly told patient Louise Corderoy, 28, that he only gave out the Pill to married patients at St Quintin's surgery in Ladbroke Grove.

Ms Corderoy, who has lived with her partner James Wiggins, 25, for four years, told The Sun: "What he said was an abuse of power." But Dr Sadler told the newspaper: "There needs to be some kind of warning to people taking the Pill."

His practice has an information leaf let which states that the Pill is only available to married patients.

"The reason being the adverse effects of extramarital intercourse, both socially and in terms of disease, which is not advised."
