Harry roughs it in mud hut

Harry is set to 'rough it' among the poor of Africa during a two-month gap-year adventure. The 19-year-old is to go soon to secret locations where he will work for charities helping women and disadvantaged children.

The trip, which echoes the work of Princess Diana, follows Harry's stay in Australia, where he worked as a cowboy.

During that trip the prince was pictured watching rugby and revelling in VIP treatment.

But sources say Harry, who has won a place at Sandhurst, wants to prove his serious side too.

Possibly staying in a mud hut, he will work on projects in various locations, including helping with building schemes and learning how aid agencies and charities operate.

For security reasons, the palace is not revealing exactly where the prince will be visiting. He will be accompanied by at least two personal protection officers.

A Clarence House spokesman said: 'The trip reflects Prince Harry's interest in helping people with health difficulties or who lack social and educational opportunities.'

A palace source added: 'Harry is not afraid of getting his hands dirty. He is determined to shake off his unfair image as a hell-raiser.'
