Lee Hurst to provide last laughs at Fymfyg comedy club’s swansong

Final act: Lee Hurst will compere the final gig at Fymfyg in its present building
12 April 2012

Lee Hurst is to become the last act to perform at a legendary east London comedy club before it is knocked down.

Fymfyg, in Bethnal Green, will close for a year while a Travelodge is built before reopening on the same site.

Hurst, who has been involved in the design process of the new club, is to MC at the venue's last gig tomorrow. Other comics who have performed at the club since it started in 1998 include Harry Hill, Mike Myers, Alastair McGowan, Paul Merton and Jimmy Carr.

Hurst said: "We've put the word out to the comics to say if they want to say ta-ta to the place. Hopefully it won't be too sad. My emotional attachment is not to the bricks and mortar, it's to the concept — and that will come back."
