12 April 2012

Police today appealed for witnesses after a cyclist was killed on the A40 in Hillingdon.

The man, in his 40s, died after his bike collided with a van on the dual carriageway road opposite RAF Northolt just after 5pm yesterday.

The victim, who has not been named, was rushed by ambulance to St Mary's Hospital but died at around 9.20pm.

His next of kin have been told but he has yet to be formally identified.

The cyclist collided with a white Ford Transit van whose driver was questioned by police at the scene but was not arrested.

A post-mortem examination is due to take place in the next few days.

Officers from the Met's Road Death Investigation Unit at Alperton Traffic Garage are investigating the incident.

Any witnesses who saw this collision, or any of the events before or afterwards, are asked to call 020 8998 5319 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
