Man 'kills wife, then himself'

A father of four is believed to have hanged himself after battering and stabbing his wife to death.

The deaths of the couple, whose bodies were found by police at their east London home on Tuesday, were today being investigated by detectives.

Neighbours told of their shock after Saciid Dayib, 40, and his 34-year-old wife Fadumo Yusuf were found dead at their three-storey terrace house in Chester Crescent, Hackney.

The couple had three daughters and a son, all under the age of 10, who are now believed to be in the care of relatives. The children were not at home when the bodies were found by police who forced their way in following a call from worried family members. Officers are not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths.

One neighbour said: "The family moved in about five years ago. They were Somalian, and there were never any problems."
