Mother of newborn baby goes missing

13 April 2012

A young mother has disappeared from hospital days after giving birth.

The 22-year-old, who told nurses her name was Lan Lee, has not been seen since she walked out of Luton and Dunstable Hospital on Saturday afternoon, leaving her newborn son behind.

She was already in labour when she arrived at the hospital on Thursday morning.

She had no medical records and claimed she was living in Luton but had been staying in Manchester and London.

Police said Lan Lee, who is Vietnamese, arrived in the country a year ago. She gave birth to a healthy boy but walked out claiming she was going to buy some provisions.

Police have released a CCTV image of Ms Lee as she left the hospital on Saturday.

PC Mick Collard, from Luton police, said: "She clearly should still be receiving medical care."

Hospital staff are caring for Ms Lee's son, whom they have named Baby Bee.
