Olympic rivers run green in east London

12 April 2012

Rivers at the Olympics site have turned lime green after an outbreak of duckweed during the recent hot spell.

Aerial images show its effect on the River Lea Navigation which forms the western perimeter of the Olympic Park, and the City Mill river which runs next to the 2012 stadium. A boat can be seen making a path through the weed in one of the images.

A clean-up operation is under way before the two-years-to-go celebrations in 11 days.
