Pop music used for 'torture'

Aguilera - her music was torture
13 April 2012

A terror suspect held at Guantanamo Bay was played Christina Aguilera songs to deprive him of sleep, a report reveals.

Saudi Mohammed al-Qahtani, the so-called 20th 9/11 hijacker, was also subjected to 30-day bouts of isolation and strip-searched to get him to talk.

His US captors often forced him to bark like a dog, and hung pictures of scantily clad women around his neck. He was forcibly injected with fluids after refusing food and water.

He was also subjected to a procedure known as 'invasion of space by a female', in which he was straddled by a woman soldier. He is said to have confessed to working for Al-Qaeda and meeting Osama Bin Laden.

The techniques are among more than 15 listed in an 84-page interrogation log from November 2002 to January 2003, leaked to Time magazine. The techniques were approved by US defence secretary Donald Rumsfeld.

Al-Qahtani was captured in Afghanistan in 2001 weeks after allegedly trying to enter the US to take part in the September 11 attacks. Meanwhile, suspected terrorists will continue to be held at Guantanamo Bay, US vice president Dick Cheney said yesterday.
