Jamie Cullum was among the stars of Britain's jazz scene who turned out in force for a tribute gig for a much-loved musician who died aged 39.

Chris Dagley, the drummer in the house band at Ronnie Scott's club in Soho, was killed in a motorcycle crash on his way home to Ruislip after work in July.

"Daggers", as he was known, also worked as a sought-after session musician alongside artists from Ella Fitzgerald and Van Morrison to Eric Clapton, Take That, Jamiroquai and Will Young.

Last night the legendary jazz club put on an "all star gala concert" which raised more than £10,000 for Dagley's partner Jan and their three young children.
