Stabbing spree: man in court

A 29-year-old man made a brief first appearance via video link at the Old Bailey today accused of murdering a man and attempting to murder four other men and a woman.

Ismail Dogan, of Birkbeck Road, Tottenham, north London was remanded in custody to appear again on March 1 when a plea and direction hearing is due to take place.

Dogan, flanked by two guards, spoke only to confirm his name through a Turkish interpreter from Belmarsh Prison in south London.

He is charged with murdering Ernest Meads, a 58-year-old father from Enfield, north London.
