Sunny days see Peacock flying high

13 April 2012

SPRING and early summer sunshine has encouraged the more mature fashion shoppers looking for a bargain through the doors of discount clothing retailer Peacock.

Like-for-like sales in its first quarter ended 29 June increased by 10.8% over the year-earlier period, with gross profit ahead 13.6%.

Britain's third-largest discount clothing retailer has been boosted by its £45.3 million acquisition of bonmarche last year. The bonmarche business, which caters for women over 45, lifted like-for-like sales 15.5% in the quarter with gross profit up 21.1%.

Peacock shares closed yesterday at 152p, a two-year peak.
