Teachers facing snap inspections

Every school in the country could face a "no-notice" Ofsted inspection, the watchdog's new head said today.

Sir Michael Wilshaw said the snap inspections would be brought in from this autumn for all schools, not just those causing concern. There have been claims that some schools send weak teachers and unruly pupils home when inspectors visit.

Sir Michael said: "We want to make sure that the public views the process as something that's rigorous and robust and there's no question that schools are not going to follow the rules."

Under new guidelines inspectors no longer have to spend time going through documentation before visits.
