Thief used Google Earth in roof raids

A CRIMINAL who used Google Earth to zoom in on historic buildings before stripping lead from their roofs has been jailed — weeks after being spared prison by magistrates.

Tom Berge, 27, from Thornton Heath, admitted stealing £100,000 of lead in 30 roof raids and was given a suspended sentence last month.

But he was caught three weeks later on a roof near Cheam in Surrey. He was sentenced to a year in jail at Sutton magistrates' court.
