Tube closure hurts John Lewis

THE continued closure of the Central line following last month's crash at Chancery Lane helped send sales down 7.3% at John Lewis's flagship Oxford Street store in the second week of February.

The figure for the three weeks ended 15 February were down 2.2%. Sales were not helped by last weekend's peace march.

However, sales at John Lewis's Peter Jones store on Sloane Square soared 15.3% last week, including the Saturday on which the march took place.
