US aircraft bomb Afghan bunker

12 April 2012

Aircraft of US-led coalition forces in Afghanistan have bombed a bunker complex near the Pakistani border that contained a "significant amount" of explosives, a military spokesman said today.

Colonel Roger King said four 500lb bombs were dropped on the three-bunker complex north of Gian, in Paktika province.

He added that the operation was co-ordinated with the Pakistani government because of its proximity to the border.

"The bunker complex was filled with explosives and ammunition that ordnance experts had deemed to be too unstable to move," Col King said.

It was unclear whether the target was an al-Qaeda bunker.
