William wasn't boy in foam

In the mysterious case of the mistaken prince, it all came down to a gap-toothed grin.

Covered from head to toe in foam and roaring with laughter along with hundreds of other students at a university freshers event, the young man certainly looked like Prince William. The Mirror was so convinced that it printed the picture under the headline Heir to the Foam. Even royal aides weren't sure. "We don't think it is him," said one.

The Times said it wasn't, the Daily Record said it was. The Evening Standard remained neutral. In the end, however, the mystery was solved by close scrutiny of the fresher enjoying St Andrews' Raisin Monday celebrations.

The be-foamed student sported a Madonna-like gap between his two front teeth. Prince William does not. And medieval history fresher Mark Willis, 19, is now coming to terms with his 15 minutes of fame.
