With a year to go, BBC rents 2012 penthouse

12 April 2012

The BBC has already signed a lease for a penthouse overlooking the Olympic stadium which will be used as a studio.

The property will be rented until September next year - a month after the closing ceremony.

They defended the decision to lease the apartment so early, saying they expect to air almost daily coverage of the Olympic story.

The BBC will have to provide accommodation for hundreds of staff from its sports department after relocating many from London to new offices in Salford.

A spokesman for the BBC refused to discuss how much they were paying for the lease.
