A 50-year-old woman is fighting for her life after being hit by a delivery truck just off Kensington High Street.

The unnamed woman suffered severe leg injuries in the collision which happened as she crossed the road as the lorry turned left onto Young Street around 9am today.

Medics worked on her at the scene of the accident for an hour before she was taken to St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington.

A spokeswoman for the London Ambulance Service described her injuries as “very serious”.

Firefighters also attended and the air ambulance was despatched and hovered over the scene but was not used.

Traffic in the area was disrupted as Young Street was cut off to traffic.

The area was teeming with commuters who saw the scene unfold.

Eyewitness Daniel Feldman, 37, a solicitor form West Hampstead, said: “It was a horrible scene, my son Jake was hit by a truck outside his school so this bought back some terrible memories.

“I was driving into work and I saw the woman’s body laying there - it was awful.”

Accountant Chris Conlon, 39, said: “It was a terrible thing to see it looked like the woman was in a bad way.”

Another eyewitness, who called 999, said: “I heard a scream and then saw the women laying on the ground. I just saw her Chanel bag next to her in the road. It looked like her legs were very badly injured.”
