Work starts on £6million Globe drama centre

12 April 2012

A full-size replica of the Globe stage is being built as part of a £6million education and rehearsal centre for the Shakespearean theatre.

Work has begun to transform a Victorian building close to the Globe, in Southwark, to house the stage. The four-storey warehouse, at 58 Park Street, was the space in which American actor and director Sam Wanamaker began developing his ideas to recreate the Globe.

It will become an education centre for the teaching and enjoyment of Shakespeare's plays. Work is due to end in spring.
