Yardies 'behind Astoria shootings'

Philip Nettleton12 April 2012

"Yardie" gangs jealous of the success of controversial pop group So Solid Crew were behind the West End shootings which left two men with serious wounds, it emerged today.

Detectives believe robbery was the motive behind the shootings at the Astoria, Charing Cross Road, which left both victims with wounds to the upper leg.

A 22-year-old man is in a serious condition and could lose his leg. A 28-year-old man is stable following the incident at a 21st birthday party for Romeo, one of the group's members. A detective said today: "So Solid Crew attract criminal gangs from across London. The gangs see the group wearing Rolex watches and expensive jewellery and are jealous.

"One victim had a Rolex watch on and although it was not taken we believe robbery was the motive. We are trying to find out why they were shot. It could have been a warning or the gun could have been discharged by accident."
