Home is...

A villa in Ibiza, where I also have a studio. I love the energy, the way people just relax and abandon themselves to the beat there.

Last show you saw?

I took my kids to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We were in a fantasy world for a few hours.

Biggest extravagance?

Private planes. Being a DJ is a blessing, but the schedule is challenging; it’s the only way I can do more shows.

First thing you do in London?

Hole up in bed watching movies, or take in a gallery. The Art of the Brick by Nathan Sawaya, at the Old Truman Brewery, was incredible. The sculpture with his heart open really captured how I was feeling at the time.

Where do you usually stay?

I rent an apartment near Hyde Park. I can be with my kids, go out for a run and work out in peace.

Last album you bought?

Sia’s 1000 Forms of Fear. No one can beat her vocals.

Best thing about London’s music scene?

I love how classic 1980s house music is being reinvented. New acts such as Disclosure and Gorgon City are giving it a lift.

Best meal?

I’m a sushi freak so I love Nobu — it’s great for bumping into people — Zuma and Sushisamba. I go for sashimi or tuna tartare.

What would you do as Mayor for a day?

Call a holiday, take over the biggest park and throw the craziest free party.

Where do you go to let your hair down?

Metropolis Studios in Chiswick. It’s like a womb for creative musicians. We often end up mashing in each other’s sessions.

Which shops do you rely on?

I go to Harrods to get kitted out — it has everything. J’adore Saint Laurent clothes, so I pass by there, too. Adidas for sneakers.

Earliest London memory?

Going to a club called Shoom in 1988 (I was a young DJ at the time playing in gay clubs in Paris). I remember Danny Rampling, the resident DJ, blew me away. I was broke, but I took all the money I had to Black Market Records in Soho the next day and bought every US house record I could. That night changed my life.

Where would you go for a nightcap?

My nightcap is English breakfast tea. I tend to work all night and go to bed at around 6am.

Who do you call to have fun?

Will.i.am. He’s a genius, a dear friend and great company.

Who’s your hero?

Ban Ki-moon. It was humbling to watch his team at work during the Philippines disaster. I saw first-hand how these dedicated, selfless people threw themselves into the action.

Favourite London club?

My favourites have all shut down now. Turnmills was incredible, a 6am dirt box. The Cross has gone, too.

Best piece of advice?

Confucius said: ‘Find a job you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.’ It still resonates.

What are you up to at the moment?

I’ve just finished a tour of Brazil, playing to 200,000 people.

What do you collect?

Computer plug-ins to produce music. I’m just a nerd at the end of the day.

David Guetta’s new album Listen is out now (Parlophone). He will be headlining Wireless 2015 on Sunday 5 July
