Beauty spot: the short fringe

Short cut: Beyoncé’s new fringe

The short fringe

While most of London is fussing over Lady Gaga's raunchy new music video featuring Beyoncé, we're more concerned with the Independent Woman's new short fringe.

Darren Fowler, creative director at London's Clipso salon, has some tips for recreating Beyoncé's cut. "Your fringe should be cut very blunt with a slight graduation from the crown so you can get real roundness. Start by brushing the fringe, then heat the brush with your hairdryer, wrapping the fringe around. Blast again on a hot heat. Then leave the brush in the fringe, spritz with a strong hold hairspray and let it cool down before removing."

For a defined, rounded-look fringe, Fowler recommends styling with the Kent KS30 ceramic-coated radial brush (£9.50, www.kentbrushes.com).
