Pop Farm: Brixton space set to open a garden for the community

The green initiative will make gardening more accessible for local people who don’t have outdoor space

Are you one of many South Londoners that dreams of tending to your own garden? Well, you’re in luck, as a new community project aims to bring a growing centre right to the heart of Brixton.

Pop Farm, a collaboration between Pop Brixton and social enterprise Urban Growth Learning Gardens, will see a section of the community campus transformed into a lush community garden. The initiative aims to make gardening more accessible for local people, while encouraging novice gardeners to grow their own produce.

The farm will be used to grow decorative plants, fresh herbs and other ingredients for use by local people, food businesses and Pop Brixton’s community of caterers; as well as offering training including formal qualification programmes, fun gardening workshops for local schools and free weekend activities for the public to take part in.

James Leay, Managing Director or Pop Brixton said, “We are excited about the launch of Pop Farm, furthering our commitment to horticulture and introducing another important element of our site.”

After two weeks of construction and planting, led by volunteers, the farm will open officially with a launch event next Sunday (March 20).
