Planning to pop the question this Christmas? Well, you’re not alone.

According to new data from Facebook, Christmas Eve is the most popular day of the year for couples to get engaged.

Social media analysts discovered that the day was top for proposals based on 2.6 million Facebook users and their changing relationship statuses.

The popular day is closely followed by Christmas Day, New Year's Day and, unsurprisingly, Valentine's Day.

A similar survey by Chillisauce.co.uk also revealed that 40 per cent believe the Christmas period is the most popular time for wedding proposals - with Christmas Eve being voted the most popular day of the year to surprise your partner.

But guys thinking of pulling out a ring on December 24 might want to think again.

The survey of 10,000 people across the UK revealed that while a third of men (33%) believe Christmas Eve would be the best time to propose, 29 per cent of women would prefer their partner to propose to them on Valentine’s Day.
