18 remarkable new cars on display at the Geneva Motor Show

Some of the weird, wacky or downright wonderful machines on display at this year’s big car show.

Car enthusiasts who have never been to continental car shows really need to make a pilgrimage to the Geneva show. Not necessarily to see the latest SUV or Korean city car, but to goggle at some of the outrageous modified cars that the European tuning industry throws into the mix.

It really is a different world at Geneva Palexpo. The very idea of taking a Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini, or McLaren and turning it into something totally other-worldly would be enough to give most marque purists a heart attack, but the Euro aftermarket boys love pushing the boat out – and cost is no object.

Sometimes good taste isn’t part of the plan either. You could argue that some of the cars on display should never have been signed off at the concept stage, let alone made it into the metal or indeed the star-spangled metalflake carbon fibre, as the case may be. But it’s all subjective, and there’s no question that all these ultra-mods draw a big crowds. Which is job done as far as their creators of Mansory, Gemballa, Hamann, Fab Design are concerned.

There are some highlights in among the lows. Life Ruf's all-new CTR, a fantastic reboot of a truly iconic hypercar, and the Liberty Walk McLaren has a cool racetrack vibe reminiscent of the old longtailed McLaren F1 Le Mans car.
