A supercar spectacular at City Concours

Oozing glamour: a Jaguar D-Type

Some of the world’s most glamorous and valuable cars rolled into the capital today for the brand new two-day City Concours.

Staged on the Honourable Artillery Company’s lawn, near the Barbican, the event will host more than 100 cars ranging from “Modern bespoke” to “American muscle” and “Evolution of the supercar”.

The stars include a sensational Jaguar XKSS, heralded as the world’s first supercar, as driven by Steve McQueen and James Dean, and the Porsche 911 2.7 RS, with its ducktail spoiler, larger engine and lightweight approach, described by some as the purest 911 experience you can have. Built in limited numbers, 2.7 RS variants often command price tags of over £500,000.

Other attractions include the Jaguar XJR-15, derived from the Jaguar XJR-9 that won at Le Mans in 1988, complete with 6.0-litre V12 engine producing 450hp. Porsche’s 911, reimagined by Singer of California, will be there with its carbon-fibre body and 3.8-litre Cosworth-developed flat-six.

The Touring Superleggera Disco Volante Spider, based on the Alfa Romeo 8C, will be on show, as will Porsche’s 911 GT1, homologated from the car that won Le Mans in 1998. A Jaguar D-Type will be present, as will the Ferrari LaFerrari, McLaren P1 and Porsche 918 Spyder, prompting more debate on ‘the world’s best supercar’.

Alongside cars curated by the event organisers will be vehicles from many high-end brands, a champagne bar and luxury stands from art house Collier & Dobson, silk screen artist Freire Printz and fine motorsport art specialists Unique & Limited. Food and drink will also be on sale.
