Ryan Giggs finally gave up all rights to anonymity in the High Court today over his affair with glamour model Imogen Thomas.
The Manchester United star settled a legal action against his 28-year-old former lover in December when he admitted that she had not tried to blackmail him.
In court Giggs has been identified only as CTB but he was named in Parliament. Today his counsel Hugh Tomlinson, QC, told Mr Justice Tugendhat: "He has consented to the removal of the anonymity."
Giggs, 38, is suing News Group Newspapers for the "distress" allegedly caused when it published details of his affair last year.
The judge today reserved his ruling on whether the action can continue after Giggs's solicitors Schillings failed to keep the action alive by having it listed.
