Marriage made me, says Julian Fellowes

Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes says marriage is the key to his success.

Lord Fellowes, 64, said he overcame insecurities fuelled by life in the shadow of a more handsome older brother only after he met Lady Emma Kitchener, niece of the third Earl Kitchener and a former lady-in-waiting to Princess Michael of Kent.

Marrying her gave him a “smell” of confidence that transformed his fortunes the actor/writer told The Lady magazine. He played Lord Kilwillie in Monarch of the Glen, Gosford Park won an Oscar in 2002 and he published his first best-selling novel, Snobs. Downton is about to begin a fourth series.
