A 14-year-old boy has been killed in a suspected firearms incident in a village in Suffolk.

Neighbours claimed a group of friends had been "messing around with an air rifle" which went off and hit the boy in the neck, the Telegraph reported.

Two teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter over the death on Sunday, police said.

Officers were called to an address in Thurston, near Bury St Edmunds, at 1.35pm by paramedics who were treating a boy with life-threatening injuries.

He was taken to West Suffolk Hospital in a critical condition but died a short while later.

A spokesman for Suffolk Constabulary said: "At this early stage, police believe there was a discharge of a firearm and are investigating the circumstances around the incident.

"Police have arrested two teenage boys on suspicion of manslaughter, and they have been taken to Bury police investigation centre for questioning."
