A southeast London nursery has closed down and an investigation has been launched after allegations of child cruelty.

Four workers at the Bromley nursery have been arrested on suspicion of child cruelty after a two-year-old was allegedly attacked.

Metropolitan Police officers were called to the nursery on May 20 after it was alleged the toddler was “physically assaulted by staff members at the venue”.

Police confirmed there were no apparent injuries to the child.

Four women aged between 18 and 28 were arrested on suspicion of child cruelty and have since been released on bail. Two other female staff members were interviewed voluntarily by detectives.

A Met spokesperson told the Standard: “We can confirm police are investigating allegations of child cruelty in relation to a nursery school in Bromley.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”

An Ofsted report shows Lemongrove Nursery on Nook Farm Road in Bromley was suspended between May 31 and July 12.

The nursery cared for children from 6 months old to five years old.
