Conor McGregor has been released on £35,482 ($50,000) bail after appearing in a New York court charged with assault.

The UFC champion appeared in court alongside fellow fighter Cian Cowley, who was released on a 25,000 dollar bail for the same offence.

Both fighters are due to appear at New York court again on June 14.

The 29-year-old Irish brawler turned himself in to the police on Friday after footage emerged appearing to show him unleashing a frenzied attack on his rivals’ tour bus.

Pictures emerged showing him being led out of the NYPD station in cuffs as he was led to court.

He was charged with three counts of assault and one of criminal mischief, the New York Police Department said.

The MMA fighter is accused of hurling a police barricade at a minibus following a press conference in Brooklyn, New York, to publicise a lightweight UFC fight tomorrow night between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Max Holloway.

McGregor was said to be enraged over the decision by UFC bosses to strip him of his lightweight title and hand it to the winner of tomorrow’s clash.

Although he famously took on boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr in the ring last August - and lost - the Irishman hasn’t fought in a UFC sanctioned event since November 2016.

In shocking video footage, McGregor appears to toss a metal trolley that smashed through a bus window, injuring fellow fighter Michael Chiesa, who suffered head and facial cuts from broken glass.

Chiesa’s MMA bout against Anthony Pettis has now been cancelled.

“Conor went bananas and put a beating on the van that we were in looking for Khabib,” said Chiesa’s coach, Rick Little.

“A million security guards had to restrain him. Mike’s cut up now. He’s got marks on him, for sure. I don’t think too serious. Everything happened so fast, it was just like we got jumped.”

Flyweight Ray Borg suffered “multiple cornea abrasions” and his fight against Brandon Moreno was also postponed, the UFC said in a statement.
