A teenager is fighting for life after he was stabbed in the afternoon near a busy shopping centre.

The 18-year-old was knifed in the chest before staggering to a nearby shop for help, police say.

Police believe the initial stabbing took place in a car park in Drummond Road, Croydon, near the Centrale shopping centre.

He made his way to a shop in nearby Tamworth Road before being helped by friends to Charrington Road.

Police and paramedics were called to the street at 3.45pm on Monday after the stabbing.

The teen was taken by ambulance to a south London hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

Scotland Yard said no arrests had been made so far.

Detectives from Croydon CID are investigating.
