Three gang members shot dead an innocent man in a botched revenge attack hours after starring in a chilling YouTube clip bragging about murder, the Old Bailey heard today.

Electrician Daniel Smith, 22, was shot in the chest with a 9mm pistol as he went to collect food at KFC while returning from a first date.

His killers were lying in wait for a man they suspected was linked to the shooting of a fellow gang member three years earlier, the jury was told.

Kervin Kavuala, 27, wanted to avenge the death of his brother Tyno who was shot dead in March 2007 in an attack by a rival gang, the court heard. Just hours before Mr Smith was targeted, a video clip was filmed and posted to YouTube in which Kavuala points to a tattoo of his dead brother while another gang member raps: “This all started when my brother died ... it won’t end ’till I see another homicide.”

Kavuala is said to have rushed to a branch of the fast food chain in Maida Vale in the early hours in November 2010 after Zeleke Forde, 30, and Shane Lewis, 32, told him his target was there. The three are alleged to have been members of the FAC — or Family About Cash — street gang, based around Kilburn, and were hunting Stacey Theophane, a member of the rival Mozart or Kensal Green group.

Prosecutor Richard Whittam QC said Mr Smith had no part in the gangland world but bore a striking resemblance to the intended target.

Kavuala, of Kilburn, Forde, of Watford, and Lewis, of Harlesden, all deny murder.

The trial continues.
