A man has died after his motorcycle collided with a Range Rover in an alleged hit-and-run crash.

The collision happened in front of shocked punters at The Ship pub on Main Road, Gidea Park.

Paramedics and firefighters joined police at the scene just before 10.50pm on Friday where they found the motorcyclist lying in the road near the junction with Heath Drive.

Police performed CPR on the stricken 23-year-old in a bid to save his life but he was pronounced dead in hospital at 2.49am the following morning.

Detectives say the car, which did not stop at the scene, was found abandoned in a car park further down the road.

A 51-year-old man has since been arrested in connection with the collision and bailed until next month.

Police would like to speak to customers from the pub who may have seen what happened.

Anyone with information should call the Met's Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 020 8597 4874 or via 101.
