A horsebox crash on the M25 today saw two of its equine occupants break loose and cause tailbacks on the busy motorway.

The collision between the animal transportation truck and another vehicle, possibly a white HGV, took place between junctions eight and nine shortly before 10am on Saturday morning.

Traffic officers at Surrey Police said there were no human injuries.

One of the two horses suffered some injuries but was still able to walk and was later secured along with the other with the help of another driver towing an empty horsebox.

Surrey Police appealed for witnesses to the accident to call them on 101.

It came a few hours ahead of a second incident on the motorway, a tanker fire, which caused further delays and led to police claiming some motorists were driving in the wrong direction to escape the disruption.
