A stuffed lion's head, monkey skin, and tortoise shells were among the exotic animal parts seized by police in a dawn raid in north London.

Officers obtained a warrant when they found allegations online that illegal and exotic animal parts were being sold from the undisclosed location in Haringey.

Police officers, including Pc Lodge, Haringey's wildlife liaison officer, conducted a search of the property at 8am on Wednesday morning.

There they uncovered the lion's head as well as monkey skin, three tortoise shells, part of a sawfish, three pieces of coral and four clams.

On Wednesday afternoon, police said a man was being interviewed in connection with the raid, but no arrests had been made.

The products were due to be examined by experts before officers decide whether to return them or make arrests.

Insp Jonathan Waterfield told the Ham & High: “This was really good work by one of our officers, who got a warrant and proactively dealt with it.

“It might not make the headlines like robberies and burglaries but this still matters and it is still an offence.”
