A man has been found guilty of stabbing his estranged wife to death in a “frenzied attack” in west London.

Gibson Mazikana, 41, was today found guilty at Southwark Crown Court of murdering Emily Munemo in Hillingdon in January this year.

The court heard Mazikana was due to be sentenced at Isleworth Crown Court on the day of the murder for assaulting a police officer who had attended his home following a domestic incident.

But on the day of the sentencing, police were called to an address in Collingwood Road, Hillingdon, at 11.10am on January 30 to reports of a woman injured and Ms Munemo, 42, was found with stab injuries.

She was pronounced dead at 12.22pm and a post-mortem examination later gave a cause of death as a stab wound to the chest.

Detectives investigating the murder found Mazikana had tried to arrange for another man to kill Emily but the man refused.

Mazikana was arrested on February 2 and was charged with the murder of his estranged wife.

Detective Chief Inspector Jamie Piscopo, from the Homicide and Major Crime Command, said: “Mazikana stabbed his estranged wife to death in what has been described as a 'frenzied attack' whilst she was in what should have been the safety of her own home.

“The violence he inflicted that day and the evidence against him meant that there was only one possible outcome.

“Emily had devoted her life to looking after others as a nurse and Mazikana has robbed others of her kindness.”

Mazikana will be sentenced tomorrow for murder and assault on a police officer.
