Police have launched a murder inquiry following a suspected fight at a house in East Ham on Saturday night.

Murder detectives have arrested a man in his 20s on suspicion of murder after the incident on Compton Avenue shortly after 7pm.

Police said they were called at around 7.20pm to reports of a seriously injured man at the property. The man in his 40s was pronounced dead at the scene.

Scotland Yard said detectives believe the man died following a fight at the house that evening.

A spokesman said the two Eastern European men were understood to be known to each other.

He added a post-mortem examination will be held on Monday and enquiries are continuing to establish the man's identity.
