A 23-year-old man was recovering from serious injuries in hospital today after being stabbed in the neck in Hackney.

The victim was attacked in Chatham Place close to Morning Lane last night, police said.

Detectives today said they were keeping an "open mind" about the circumstances around the attack as they appealed for witnesses to speak to them.

A police spokesman said officers were called to an east London hospital at 9.30pm on Sunday after reports that a man was suffering from stab wounds.

He added: "The injured man is in a serious but stable condition following surgery. His family has been notified."

Anyone with information can contact police on 101 or speak to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
