CCTV showing Peter Fox at a central London train station has today been released as detectives step up their hunt for the Merseyside man whose mother and sister were murdered on Friday.

Bernadette Fox and her daughter Sarah were found dead within hours of each other at two separate addresses in Bootle, Merseyside, on Friday. Now police urgently want to trace 26-year-old Mr Fox, who is believed to be in London - and have warned the public not to approach him.

The new images show him leaving Liverpool Lime Street on Wednesday evening - two days before the killings - and arriving at Euston. He is pictured on the Liverpool platform at about 8.20pm before getting to Euston shortly before 11pm.

Where he went next is not yet known.

Meanwhile the women's family say they are "absolutely devastated" and struggling to come to terms with their loss.

Merseyside's Det Ch Insp Dave Rooney said: "We are still trying to trace Peter Fox, the 26-year-old son of Bernadette, as he could have information which could assist with our investigation.

"I am reappealing to Peter to come forward so we can speak to him following the murders of his mother and sister. We know Peter travelled by train to London on Wednesday night and we are working with the Metropolitan Police to try and find him. Although we know he travelled to London that night he may well have gone on to travel outside of the London area.

“I would stress to the public that if they do see Peter Fox, they should not approach him.

"Peter’s family have been left devastated by the deaths of Bernadette and Sarah and they would also urge Peter to come forward to help the detectives investigating these murders."

Mr Fox is described as white and 5ft 2ins to 5ft 5ins tall. He is of slight build and has short dark hair and brown eyes. He speaks with a Liverpool accent.

Anyone who sees Peter Fox is urged to call the police on 999, or phone Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
