A man whose wife and son were allegedly stabbed to death by a homeless man they had helped has spoken for the first time about how his "happy family bubble" was destroyed.

Peter Wilkinson, 47, was stabbed repeatedly in the alleged attack that also left his wife Tracey, 50, and 13-year-old son Pierce dead.

He fought for his life in hospital while his 18-year-old daughter Lydia waited to find out if she had lost her entire family.

Speaking for the first time since the attack at their family home in Stourbridge two-and-a-half weeks ago, Mr Wilkinson said: “Our lives revolved around each other – that’s gone now, and it’s devastating.

“Our lives have just been shattered; we’re a family that’s been wrecked.

Mr Wilkinson found out he had lost his wife when he was being taken to hospital but later found out his son died when he came around.

“I was so drugged up, it just didn’t hit home for a long time. Even now we’re still in shock – we still expect to see them.

“I can’t believe we’re never going to see them again.”

Aaron Barley, 23, of no fixed address, has been charged with two counts of murder and one of attempted murder.

He is due to stand trial on October 3.
