A manhunt is under way after a train passenger was attacked by a machete-wielding thug following a row in south London.

Police say a 38-year-old man was attacked following an altercation with a fellow passenger on a service from Victoria to West Croydon.

Both men got off the train at Norbury when the attacker grabbed hold of the man’s arm to pull him back, it is claimed.

He then allegedly pulled a machete from his bag and tried to attack the man with it.

Police say the train passenger sustained injuries to his arms in the struggle.

Following the incident, which took place at around 7pm on February 25, British Transport Police have released a CCTV image of a man they want to trace.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Sarah Garden, said: “Fortunately the victim’s injuries on this occasion were not serious.

“It is vital that we trace the offender and prevent him from attacking anyone else.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 0800 40 50 40 or text 61016 quoting reference number 265 27/03/17.
