A pensioner was violently robbed of his gold chain by two thugs as he sat on a bench in Brixton, police said.
The 87-year-old victim was allegedly set upon as he sat down outside his home at around 11am on August 5.
Police said he was approached by two men, one of whom grabbed the chain and dragged him onto the floor before punching him in the face "several times".
The pair are then said to have prised the chain from the victim's neck before fleeing the scene in Arlingford Road towards Brockwell Park.
Officers have today launched an appeal to trace the two suspected robbers.
Detective Constable Sarah Mustoe said: "The gold chain that was stolen is very distinctive and it is likely that the suspects have, or will try to sell it on, so we're appealing for anyone with information to get in touch with us. This was a violent robbery against an elderly man, and I'd urge anyone who might have information regarding the identity of the suspects to come forwards as well."
One of the suspects is described as a light-skinned black man in his late teens or early 20s, wearing a blue fisherman's-type hat and dark clothing. The second suspect is described as light-skinned black man in his late teens or early 20s.
