Police officers in Newham may have thought they'd stumbled into Narnia when they discovered a secret 'forest' lurking through a hole in a wardrobe in East Ham.

But the discovery, which was found growing in the loft of the house in Rutland Road, turned out to be 600 cannabis plants.

The find was made by police officers searching the property in relation to a GBH investigation, who stumbled upon the hole in the wardrobe, which was connected to the ceiling.

Inspector Simon Hutchinson told the Newham Recorder that officers were able to access the loft with a chair that was left under the hole in the cupboard.

He said: “A search of the address for the suspect identified hidden access to the loft via a wardrobe, the actual loft hatch had been plastered over.

“Police entered the loft via the secret entrance and found a fully functional cannabis factory, with over 600 plants and lighting equipment.”
