Police have warned the public not to approach a potentially "violent and dangerous" man after a woman was stabbed in south London.

James Wall, 22, was being hunted by police after a 33-year-old woman was stabbed in the leg in Mitcham on Friday.

Police and paramedics were called to reports of a stabbing in Glebe Court at about 10pm.

The victim was taken to a south London hospital and has since been discharged.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: “At this early stage, it is believed that James Wall was at the address at the time of the stabbing and officers are keen to speak with him and establish the circumstances of the incident.

“Members of the public are asked not to approach James Wall if he is seen but to call 999.”

Merton police tweeted: “Police are urgently looking for James Wall. Do not approach as he is known to be violent and dangerous. Call 999/101 ref 1400769/17.”

He is believed to be from the Tooting area and has connections to Weymouth.

Anyone with any information was asked to contact police on 101 or via Twitter @MetCC or Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555111.
