Scotland Yard has tonight launched a murder investigation after the death of a man found repeatedly stabbed at a home in east London.

Police were called to a home in Nelson Gardens, Bethnal Green on Saturday where a 26-year-old man was discovered with stab injuries.

He was taken to an east London hospital where he died at 3.36am on Sunday. A post-mortem examination gave the cause of death as stab wounds.

The victim has yet to be formally identified but police believe they know who the man is and his next of kin have been informed.

Detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command are investigating.

So far no arrests have been made.

Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is asked to call police via 101. To remain anonymous call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111
