A newsagent sexually assaulted a young girl with learning difficulties in his shop.

Muhammad Shahbaz, 27, of Railton Road in Lambeth, befriended and groomed the girl before attacking her in the basement of the SRI Newsagents store.

On another occasion, he assaulted her on the shop floor.

Det Const Ashley Lees said: “Shahbaz took advantage of a vulnerable girl with learning difficulties, befriending her to gain her confidence before sexually assaulting her.

“This is a despicable crime by a grown man and I am pleased at his conviction today.”

Predator Shahbaz, known as Sam, was snared after the brave girl told staff at her school what had happened.

He was convicted of both offences on Monday at Inner London Crown Court and will be sentenced in December.

Michael Williams, 41, was cleared of raping the girl.
