A man was rushed to hospital after being stabbed in the shoulder in a "screwdriver attack" on a busy road in north London.

Emergency services raced to Stamford Hill late on Wednesday night following reports of a stabbing.

A photo posted on social media by Shomrim, the Jewish neighbourhood watch group in the area, showed at least three police cars and a police van at the scene.

Witnesses claimed the man had been stabbed in the back with the screwdriver.

The incident comes just a day after a man wielding a meat cleaver and a large knife was arrested in nearby Rossington Street.

A spokesman for the Met Police said: “We are investigating a GBH. We were called at 10.21pm to Stamford Hill.

“A 43-year-old man had been stabbed in the shoulder. He was taken to a north London hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

“A 42-year-old man was arrested and taken to an east London police station.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
